Artist Statement

In his Symbol Life series, Liao Shiou-Ping translated the material culture of the lives of ordinary people into artistic symbols by combining the art styles of modern paintings with local Taiwanese representative elements. The series featured the characteristics of oriental essence and Taiwanese aesthetics. The symbols in this series have been inspired by his pursuit and blessing of a beautiful life and demonstrate an abundant and peaceful way of living through the images of paper money and clothes used in folk rituals; common everyday objects such as scissors, umbrellas, brushes, and rattan baskets; the doors and windows of homes, as well as symbols of man, woman, clothing, and shoes. The artwork in a symmetric composition to provide a sense of calm stability. The idea is to emphasize the hidden endless natural order and festive attraction of Taiwan within the complex life of modern society.
