COVID-19 in 2020 has plunged global cultural and art industries to their worst recession. To be a beacon, the online exhibition, Taiwan Under COVID-19: United Through Art, introduces the works of 36 passionate Taiwanese artists across three generations. They aim at demonstrating their unreserved support and warm friendship for India through art in a digital world of beauty and hope.

Artist Statement

Jun T. Lai has a unique view on the aesthetics of the sea, which is projected in her perspective of the islands, and her exploration of spaces is driven by her sensitivity and great concern of the environment. Jun T. Lai began her art career in the 1980s and was given several significant art awards to rising young artists at that time. In the 1990s, the artists turned to investigating lives in Taiwan’s society and since 2000, she started her theme “Wonderland” and subthemes “youth”, “islands” and “sea” to delineate Taiwan’ sautonomy in cultural context.
Many of Jun T. Lai s public artworks are awarded by the Ministry of Culture, and she was the recipient of the Artist’s Art Achievement Award from the Wu San-Lien Foundation. Her artworks are also collected by museums in Taiwan and the rest of the world. Jun T. Lai’s art career is a mirror of Taiwan’s recent development of art. With her female perspective, Jun T. Lai keeps ascending to the peak of her career with ever renewing art language and dynamics.
